Doug has a life full of many interests...music, sports, and travel come specifically to mind. His students will tell you he unabashedly will play his favorite bands and singers in his classroom...classic stuff from the past (Pink Floyd), and in addition, with what is current.
Doug is abundant in his enthusiasm for sports and athletics in general. His attitude is filled with team spirit. He has been a dedicated coach and has ventured out into the world of officiating baseball, softball, and football. Around school, Doug is our sports guru. He comes up with new ideas for competitive fun around March Madness time. He loves to golf with his buddies. Doug not only has a great knowledge base of all things sports, but he is full of the importance of hard work and fairness--values he brings to any athletic field or court.
Doug has a full sense of adventure and travel. He has been to numerous sports venues, cities, and historical sites. He always travels with family or friends. He likes to share those experiences with others and you cannot help but see his full child-like wonder visiting places that mean so much to him.
Doug has an utmost capacity of care and concern for his students and teaching. You cannot help but notice all of the many photos posted on his bulletin boards, and even photos of students hard at work suspended with string hanging from the ceiling. There is NO empty space with Doug--he is full of heart. There is no lacking in his science knowledge, no lacking in his curiosity to learn new things, and no lacking in sharing his wisdom both in word and deed. His integrity-filled example for both student and staff resonates strong and rich notes of daily inspiration.
Doug's greatest fullness of love and pride is for his family-- children Ryan and Colin, and his wife, Jen. He is bursting with enthusiasm in his kids' pursuits and achievements. His heart is completely filled with support; it is like a cup full and overflowing.
As of this time and day (Thursday morning, January 14), Doug remains in ICU and has yet to "wake up."(although some positive reflex responses) We believe, as does his son, that "he's a fighter, not a quitter." Doug's significant impact and influence has filled the hearts and lives of US, those he has touched, moved, and inspired with the fullness of his essence...his life.
Come on, Doug--game on! Can't you hear it? They're playing "Hail to the Victor!"
[Full: completely filled; containing all that can be held...]
