We laughed and talked a lot. Both of us had similar perspectives of education and the college experience; it was fun hanging out. One topic that I couldn't relate to, one in which he was passionate, was Astrology. Often, he would sprinkle in our conversations his knowledge about the constellations and planets. I was clueless.
One weekend we drove to his home in Indiana and 'met the folks.' (This is not what you think) We were outside in the driveway of his parents' rural home(It's still not what you think). We sat on the hood of the car looking up at the darkened, glittered sky. Kevin, without being boring, went on and on about what he was observing; pointing out the various star patterns and why they were called what they were called. He pointed out the planet Venus to me. I listened with interest, not necessarily because of the subject but because of the passion he had in sharing the knowledge; something he loved. It evoked in me a respect and focus in the literal and metaphorical universe. I was fascinated, because he was fascinated. It was cool.
In any area of interest, be passionate about it and absorb as much knowledge in it as you can and then share it with others! It can only intensify your life outlook and perspective. If you're passionate about learning something then delve and acquire as much as you can. It not only will enhance your own mind and heart, but you'll encourage others to do the same.
To this day, I only really remember one actual tidbit about the heavenly hosts: You can distinguish the difference between stars and planets: stars appear like they're twinkling, whereas, planets appear like they are emitting a constant light. Either way, in this case...with Kevin, the twinkle soon faded but that moment shared remains constant.
