Kainophobia is the excessive fear of change or anything new. "Kain" comes from the Greek word for new, and "phobia" means fear. We tend to fear the unknown and stay in our comfort zones because that's all we know. Jim Rohn said, "Your life does not get better by chance, it gets better by change." This is a quote that I think is very motivational. Many times we become unhappy with our lives but don't have the courage or willpower to try and fix it. "People underestimate their capacity for change There is never a right time to do a difficult thing "(John Porter).
We always have the opportunity to better ourselves and our circumstances, but we often put it off. We aren't always as confident in ourselves as we should be, and we let that hold us back from taking a chance.
It's easy to overthink the possible outcomes of circumstances and what could go wrong. Most of the time the thing that we're holding off on is what will give us the most happiness. Instead of focusing on the negative as we do, we should shift our perspective and think about all the things that could go right.
It's easier said than done, but change can be a good thing too. Throughout my research, many people develop this fear because of a prior traumatic experience. Not everyone has to go through an unpleasant experience to have this fear. I learned that this fear can be caused by heredity, genetics, and brain chemistry. Some of us are susceptible to this fear, but those factors don't mean we can't overcome it.
As Tony Robbins has said, "You must do the thing you think you cannot do." You may be afraid of something, but if that thing will give you potential happiness, you should be willing to take the risk. If you can better yourself in any way, we should jump at the opportunity to so.
